Education Specialist:     Responsible for providing professional services in the planning, developing, monitoring, and delivery of training and technical assistance to the child care community in Kennebec and Somerset Counties.

 

This position requires a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education (or a related field and 24 early childhood credits), experience in the delivery of training to adult learners, work experience in early childhood classrooms, understanding of the higher education system and Maine’s Quality Rating System requirements.  Must have a good working knowledge of Maine’s child care system, strong organizational and communication skills, good computer skills, and access to reliable transportation. Salary is commensurate with level of experience.

LDA of Maine is a 30 year old affiliate of LDA of America located in Waterville, Maine. As the Maine affiliate of LDAA, the Learning Disabilities Association of Maine (LDA-ME) is the only nonprofit family organization whose mission is to provide support, education, and advocacy statewide to individuals with LD and co-existing disorders. Our Board of Directors and committee members are composed of individuals with learning disabilities, their parents and concerned professionals.  We seek an energetic, motivated individual for this full-time position that operates under the direction of the Board of Directors, provides overall executive management and coordinates all operations, and is responsible for steering the organization to fulfill its mission and the specific grant requirements.

 

The Executive Director will lead the development of this organization that currently consists of two paid part time staff and numerous volunteers.  The chief priorities of the Executive Director will be supporting parents and families, meeting grant requirements, diversifying our funding and representing our organization locally and nationally. In addition, this person is a principal spokesperson for the affiliate and will build relationships in the communities we serve.

 

The Executive Director is also responsible for fiscal management, supervision of the staff, leading / resolving day-to-day issues to keep the organization on track to meet its goals and working closely with the Board of Directors. 

 

Applicants should possess strong leadership skills in a team environment and proven fund-raising abilities. Other qualifications include the ability to organize information, ideas, programs and people as well as to effectively delegate responsibility; experience in managing a nonprofit volunteer organization; proven ability to build relationships within the community; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; flexibility to work in a dynamic environment and attend evening and weekend meetings and special events.

 

Familiarity with and enthusiasm for Learning Disabilities of America mission is desirable.  Bachelors or Masters Degree preferred, minimum 3 years experience working with individuals with Learning Disabilities 

 

A competitive total compensation package includes a base salary of

$35,000-$65,000.

Research Assistant for a small and growing company conducting social services and educational research and evaluation across New England.  Current projects focus on mental health and substance abuse in schools, college preparatory programs, suicide prevention, youth development, public health, literacy education with preschool children in child care centers and the use of child care among refugees and immigrants in Maine and Colorado. 

The successful candidate should have (1) experience in educational or other relevant settings, (2) an understanding of public policy and social policy, (3) exposure to policy research, research design and methodology, (4) exposure and experience in quantitative and qualitative research skills, for example, using statistical software (e.g. SPSS), (5) an ability to learn quickly ability to communicate and work well with researchers and other professionals, and (6) proven ability to work independently, with limited day-to-day supervision.  Must have very strong writing skills, good listening skills and the ability to learn new skills quickly.  Must have a good sense of research, numbers, patterns and statistics.  Must have the ability to work on multiple projects, be flexible, be organized and efficient in completing products.  Individual must have strong commitment to accuracy, quality of work product and excellent judgment.  This person must be honest, ethical, and have an excellent work ethic.  Must have ability to travel around Maine and occasionally to New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Connecticut.   Passion for the type of research we do is important.
