Part of the debate around the proposed changes in rates of reimbursement for the Child Care paid for via the Maine Child Care Subsidy System has been centered around two questions:

1)  “Does higher cost child care really result in better outcomes for children?”  and

2)  “Does this greater investment in these children pay dividends to the overall economic prosperity in Maine?”

To assist in these discussions, we’ve gathered a handful of reports, both specific to the State of Maine and from a more national perspective, and put links to these reports below.

First, to address the question:  Is there a link between the “Cost of Care” and the “Quality of Outcomes for Children” in child care settings in Maine.

Second, to address the question:  “Is there any meaningful connection between the “quality” of child care available to our young children and the overall economic prosperity in Maine?”

These domains are economic wellbeing,safe/risky behavior, social relationships, emotional/spiritual well-being, community engagement, educational attainment, and health.
